A Middleton Moment

Can't you see Princess Kate wearing this houndstooth dress?  Obviously she would have paired it with her famous nude pumps and nude stockings, but she's far more conservative than I am.  Definitely not hot pink blazer material.

If you're looking for colored tights, check out We Love Colors.  They have colors and sizes to fit any body.

A Pop of Leopard

Leopard is my new favorite neutral.  The fact that you can pull camel, brown, or black from the pattern makes it incredibly versatile, it goes with almost everything.

I'm currently crushing on the canadian tuxedo trend.  (Denim on denim.)  As long as the two are obviously different shades, it's so wearable.

What kind of eyeliner do you use?  I was always a pencil girl until recently.  Last time I was in New York, I had a salesperson at Sephora (aren't they the best??) help me try out the winged eyeliner trend.  She used Stila's "Stay All Day" felt-tip eyeliner, and let me tell you.  I am addicted!

The pictures above were taken at 10 p.m.   After a bike ride.  And a run.  And 8 hours of work.  Not one smudge.  I'm a believer.

Cable Knit

I'm really feeling neutral color palettes lately.  If you keep your colors neutral, you have a lot more room to play with textures and styles.  A chainmail peter-pan collar necklace might be too much with a hot pink top, but with a cream cable-knit sweater, it works.  Same goes with the pleather skirt.  Because it's a conservative cut, it doesn't look too intense.

Side note:  Can we talk about how flattering nude heels are?  They make your legs look 5,000 times longer than they actually are.

Pink & Black

I'm in love with this ensemble.  I might marry it.  That's how much I love it.  Cords + chambray + stilettos?  I feel like that sums up my style perfectly.  And the pop of sparkle is the icing on the cake!

Some outfits just come alive in my head.  This was actually not one of those.  It took a good amount of thought to think it up.  For some reason, I just wasn't getting the suede pointed-toe pumps with the pink cords.  It doesn't sound like it should go together, but once I put it on, I knew it would work perfectly.

Does it ever take you a while to talk yourself into a combination?

When Everything Changed

One of my 2013 resolutions was to read 40 books this year.  It's January 16 and I've just finished my first: "When Everything Changed: The Amazing Journey of American Women from 1960 to the Present" by Gail Collins.  I've always been a fan of reading fiction, but have turned heavily to non-fiction in the past couple of years.  When a friend from work let me borrow this book, I knew I'd found a winner.

Ms. Collins thoroughly discusses the history of women in recent history.  It's amazing to think that just 50 years ago, women were virtually second class citizens here in the United States.  Things still aren't perfect but it's incredible how far we've come.  I highly recommend this book to any woman, but especially to ladies around my age who didn't grow up with the real sexism that was the norm for generations before us.

Here's a link to the book on Amazon.  Thanks to Jean for letting me borrow her copy!

Have you read any great books lately?  Were they fiction or non-fiction?

This outfit is a total copycat.  I bought this sweater a while back and was so thrilled to see it on Pinterest a few days later!  I never would have paired it with a salmon scarf, but once I saw it, I knew I had to try it.  (It just so happened to perfectly match my Tart Deco nail polish by Essie!)

I'm a big fan of neutral color palettes lately, but I'm absolutely loving this pop of color.

Have you ever found "Pinspiration?"  What are you loving lately on Pinterest?

Chic Black

I just bombarded you with photos.  Sorry.  But I love this outfit so much. A blouse-y tunic and skinny jeans always looks classic and put-together, especially with a pop of leopard and a bright lip!

Working Girl

Please excuse my squinting.  Today, I worked retail, which required me to wear items from the store.  This pullover (the Re-Tool Snap by Patagonia) will change your life.  It is so soft and cozy.  The boots are Frye, which we carry in the store, or I would NEVER be able to afford them! (Let alone the three pairs I own.  I think I have a problem.)

I love these corduroy skinnies because they look so much like denim, only slightly dressier.  I can't actually decide what color they are.  They vary from teal to navy depending on what I wear them with...
